Edward
Chernoff
Edward Chernoff is the president of Motors & Armatures, Inc.,
a national and international distributor of air conditioning,
refrigeration, and heating replacement parts and supplies. Motors
& Armatures operates a division called Star Equipment and
Supplies that distributes floor care products. The company was
founded in 1946 by Edward's father, Sol Chernoff.
A graduate of Brandeis University with a dual degree in chemistry
and biology, Edward joined Motors & Armatures in 1973 and
was named president in 1982. Motors & Armatures is the subject
of a Harvard Business School case study, and Edward participates
in the teaching of the case several times each year. His background
in chemistry and biology led him to his leadership position at
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Dolan DNA Learning Center.
Motors & Armatures is dedicated to providing value to its
customers, as well as providing a good place to work for its employees
and sales representatives. These fundamentals combine with Edward's
activities in the community on Long Island. In addition to serving
as Chairman of the DNALC's Corporate Advisory Board, he is also
Chairman of the New Leadership Division of North Shore-LIJ Hospital
System Foundation, which raises money to fund pediatric care at
Schneider Children's Hospital. He is a past member of the Board
of Directors of the Institute for Student Achievement, which is
committed to improving the education of children and youth at
risk, so that all children can learn and succeed in our society.
He has been recognized as a Community Leadership Honoree for ISA.
Edward auctions his services as an amateur chef to raise money
for North Shore-LIJ and the DNALC. He has taken his culinary hobby
to a ridiculous extent by participating in the ownership of a
renowned Long Island restaurant.
Edward lives in Lattingtown and is devoted to his teenage son,
Marc. His interest in cooking and wine has been featured in Newsday,
and he pretends to enjoy playing golf.
