Science Educators and Plant Biologist

Middle and High School Science Educators

The Dolan DNA Learning Center of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has immediate fulltime openings for lab instructors to provide hands-on experiences for middle and high school students at its facilities in Cold Spring Harbor, Lake Success, and Harlem. Additional responsibilities may include developing teaching modules and conducting teacher-training workshops. Occasional overnight travel is required to workshops and professional meetings.

Ideal candidates will have strong backgrounds in teaching or biology. NYS teaching certification is preferred but not required. Postdoctoral scientists who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will become members of a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods of genetics education, including the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, and RNA interference (for further information, browse this Internet site). These positions demand motivated, self-starters with excellent writing, computer, and communication skills – plus the ability to work closely with others.

Plant Biologist for Educational Outreach


The Dolan DNA Learning Center of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has an immediate opening for a biologist to manage an educational component of the iPlant Collaborative, a $50 million, 5-year research project funded by the National Science Foundation. Responsibilities will include adapting online informatics resources for education and conducting a nationwide training program for high school and college teachers. An advanced degree in plant or computational biology is required, with preference given to individuals with dual training. Experience with multimedia design and production software – especially Macromedia Flash – is an advantage. This is an excellent opportunity for a new doctoral or post-doctoral student who seeks an alternative to research.
