Candido E. Fuentes, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Candido E. Fuentes, M.D., F.A.C.S. has been a CAB member since 1997. Dr. Fuentes is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and has a practice located in the adjacent town of Huntington, NY. With privileges in the North Shore University Hospitals at Glen Cove and Manhasset, as well as at Huntington Hospital, he is involved in north shore professional and business communities surrounding the Labs.

Dr. Fuentes graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, the University of Guadalajara Medical School, and did general surgical residencies at The Metropolitan Hospital in New York City and at the SUNY Medical Center at Stony Brook. He then completed a two year plastic surgical residency at The University of Rochester Medical Center, Strong Memorial Hospital. In 1986 Dr. Fuentes came to Huntington where he established his aesthetic practice. Being board certified both as a general surgeon and as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, he is currently located at 120 New York Avenue, Huntington, NY. Dr. Fuentes is an active member in the medical societies on the local, state, and national levels. He has been chosen to serve on the Innovative Procedures Committee of the American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, where new surgical procedures are investigated and considered prior to recommendation to the membership. Within that organization, Dr. Fuentes also serves on the International Plastic Surgery Committee, the Public Relations Committee, and the Practice Relations Committee.

As a CAB member, Dr. Fuentes brings a wealth of medical knowledge to the board, as well as 15 years of hands-on experience in educating the public on health concerns. A frequent guest speaker addressing the many facets of plastic surgery, he knows the importance and value of raising public awareness. "Gene therapy excites me; I see the possibilities for it every day in what I do. I see both the opportunity for early detection of certain cancers, the possible links between one type of cancer and another, and, someday, the forecast of preventing the disease from happening at all." Living in nearby Huntington with his wife and two children, he's discovered that very few people are even aware of what the Labs and the Learning Center are offering. "It's important that we get this information out to the people. It's exciting; it's the future."

With strength in the medical and scientific fields, Dr. Fuentes is dedicated to helping today's youth and their educators share in the excitement of gaining better scientific knowledge. "We're on the cutting edge of tomorrow's medical world, right now...right here."
