John
G. Passarelli
Dr. John G. Passarelli, a Board Certified ophthalmic surgeon, is
the Medical Director of the Long Island Eye Surgery Center, Long
Island Surgical Care in Brentwood, NY and Suffolk Surgery Center
in Shirley, NY. Dr. Passarelli earned his undergraduate degree from
The University of Notre Dame and completed his medical school education
from the State University of New York Downstate. His ophthalmic
training occurred at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center in New
York City where he achieved Chief Residency status in Ophthalmology.
In addition to The Long Island Eye Surgery Center, Dr. Passarelli
is affiliated with several hospitals including Good Samaritan Medical
Center, South Side Hospital and North Shore LIJ Health System. He
has been an ophthalmologist for more than twenty years and specializes
in cataract and vision correction micro-surgical procedures of the
eye.
Dr. Passarelli has performed refractive surgery since its infancy
in the early 1980s and has been performing LASIK surgery since its
approval by the FDA in 1995. Dr. Passarelli is the senior partner
in Island Refractive Eye Care, which owns a VISX Excimer Star S4
Laser. The laser utilizes WaveScan® diagnosis and CustomVue™ treatment
and is located in a sterile surgical suite operated by certified
laser technicians.
Dr. Passarelli has lectured extensively throughout the United States
including the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Southside
Hospital in Bay Shore, Manhattan Eye and Ear in New York, and Wills
Eye in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His presentations include the
American Academy of Ophthalmology Surgeons and the American Society
of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Passarelli has been providing
education for medical students, residents and physicians assistants
for over twenty years. Dr. Passarelli is presently on the Advisory
Council for the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame.
Academically, Dr. Passarelli is recognized as one of the most experienced
and educated eye surgeons on Long Island. He trains his peers nationally
and is an inventor of micro-surgical instruments.
Dr. Passarelli has recently been elected to the Business Development
Board for The First National Bank of Long Island, Hauppauge, NY.
He is also an active member of the following medical societies:
American Association of Ophthalmic Surgeons, American
Medical Association, American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery,
Long Island Ophthalmological Society, Medical Society of the State
of New York, New York Diabetes Association, Out-Patient Ophthalmic
Surgical Society, Society for the Prevention of Blindness, Society
of Excellence in Eye Care, Suffolk County Ophthalmic Society and
The American Academy of Ophthalmology
Dr. Passarelli's awards include the Community Outreach Award and
UCP Suffolk's 2003 Honoree. He has been awarded the Certificate
of Honor from both Southside Hospital and the State University of
New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Passarelli has expanded his services
and is now available at his other Long Island, New York offices
in Sayville, West Islip, Huntington and Port Jefferson. The main
office, laser suite and the AAAHC certified ambulatory surgery center
are located in Brentwood, New York. The Suffolk Surgery Center,
AAAHC certified ambulatory center is located in Shirley, NY.
Dr. Passarelli currently resides in Laurel Hollow, New York with
his son, Matthew and daughters, Diana and Alyssa.
