SUPPORT STATEMENT

_________________________ has applied to participate in a
Genes to Cognition (G2C) Online training workshop that is
supported by a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
The workshop will explore the biological basis of cognition, and will
examine cognitive disorders such as autism and schizophrenia through the
lens of neural and molecular science. It will be conducted in collaboration with a
university or science center that has a significant outreach program for high school
biology or psychology faculty. The goals of the workshop are as follows:
1) To introduce G2C Online content, how it supports curriculum-centered
instruction, and how it can extend student learning with insights into the
process of scientific inquiry.
2) To introduce customizable features of the site – including generating
different views of the G2C Online, analyzing paths through the network, and
accessing teacher-specific content.
3) To introduce the use of concept maps using to complement G2C Online
and monitor student learning.
The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
also encourages the sponsoring school to take reasonable measures to support
participants' efforts to incorporate what is learned into their own classes.
