A gift to the family, Barbara Weber

Interviewee: Barbara Weber. Barbara Weber talks about the dramatic moment when she realized she had information that could change the life of her patient's sister. (DNAi Location: Applications > Genes and Medicine > Gene testing > Barbara Weber A gift to the family)

And as she started to describe her own sib-ship - her brothers and sisters, I started to realize that she was a gene mutation carrier as you might expect because she had breast cancer. But that her sister wasn't and that her sister didn't know that she wasn't but that I knew that she wasn't and it was really an indescribable moment when I realized that, I mean it was sort of a physical sensation almost and I got up and I left, I said I have to go check on something I'll be back in a few minutes. And I went over and called over to the lab which was a ten or fifteen minute walk from the clinic and I got them to look up the names that went with the pedigree and that's when I really realized what we knew. And at that point realized that you know we had this tremendous, you know in a way it felt like a gift at that time that we had find, we had something to give back to this family that they really needed.
