And in Europe and Africa, we have the appearance of a more evolved species called Homo heidelbergensis. And, it's H. heidelbergensis, which certainly for me, is probably the last common ancestor of the Neandertals and of modern humans. And we can imagine H. heidelbergensis populations right across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, north of the Mediterranean, gradually evolving towards the Neandertals, and south of the Mediterranean and in Africa, evolving to modern humans.
