He sent me a handful of compounds; I started testing them and in very short order we identified STR571 which ultimately became Gleevac as the best of the compounds they had that killed CML cells without harming normal cells. And then it was just a matter of doing all the work that it takes to get a compound out of lab into the clinic in clinical trials.
