Hippocampus and Conscious Memory

Professor Karim Nader explains that different brain regions are responsible for different types of memory. The hippocampus mediates conscious memory.

The hippocampus is thought to play a role in mediating our conscious memories. There are many memory systems in the brain. Some mediate emotional information, such as the amygdala, others mediate information about riding bicycles and skills and that is thought to be mediated by the striatum. Our conscious memories are mediated by a system that incorporates the hippocampus.
