Meeting Frank Stahl, Matthew Meselson

Interviewee: Matt Meselson. Matt Meselson talks about how he met Frank Stahl, his partner in "the beautiful experiment." Together they proved that DNA is replicated semi-conservatively. (DNAi Location: Code > Copying the code > Players > First meeting with Franklin Stahl)

And one day we were in the brick building, the Lily building with the library in it, on the second or third floor, window was open, and Jim pointed down to a fellow who was sitting across the street underneath a tree on the grass, and said words, I don't remember the exact words, but they were to this effect: that guy thinks he's a hot-shot, let's give him the Hershey Chase Blender experiment to do all by himself in an afternoon, see how good he is. So I thought, this poor guy, and also he sounds like an interesting guy, so after, I don't know what we were doing in that room, planning the course I guess, I went downstairs and introduced myself to this fellow, who was selling gin and tonic. He would buy gin and tonic and ice-cubes, which he got from the lab the ice-cubes, and sell this, and that way he could buy more.
