A one page survey for euthanasia, Muller-Hill and Watson

Interviewee: Benno Muller-Hill, James Watson. Psychiatrists filled out a one-page questionnaire for each mental patient, and marked with a cross those to be euthanized. Here Benno Müller-Hill takes James Watson on a tour of the gas chamber at Bernberg Psychiatric Hospital, one of six euthanasia facilities for mental patients established in 1940-41. For every sick person in such a hospital, a one-page questionnaire had to be filled out, and the one, and there were dangerous questions in there, there was for example, did you, does the person still, is capable of working? And if this was no, that was it. Is there any chance that he will become better? How long is he already here? So then they made what is called a cross below and that was it, and actually there were two groups, first a relative low group of psychiatrists, of just medical doctor psychiatrists who made the first decision, and then the whole of these papers went through on a higher grade to university professors of psychiatry, actually ten of them, who then glanced through these things, whether the decisions were right. And they made a second cross, and that was it, and with the second cross you had it.
