Shared genetic material between humans and chimps, Mary-Claire King

Description:
Interviewee: Mary-Claire King. Geneticist Mary-Claire King talks about her discovery that chimps and humans are extremely similar at a molecular level. (DNAi Location: Applications > Human Origins > Comparison s> DNA > Shared genetic material)
Transcript:
So what we did in these days, this was by now the early 1970's - 1970, 1971, 1972 - was take blood samples from lots of chimps who were living in zoos roundabout or who had been, who were visitable by people who were working in the field. And lots of blood samples from people roundabout. And we compared them with the techniques of the time. And we've showed using the techniques of the time that humans and chimpanzees share 98/99% of our genetic material.
