In many ways this office, biological and environmental research, being in the midst and the bosom of this big science enterprise, naturally thought of an equivalent big-time, big, big-time scientific program in biology. And around that time there were many ideas about sequencing the human genome in the community, so it was a natural one to pick up and run with it.
