So the first time DNA was ever used in a criminal investigation was to prove innocence, and that again with the wisdom of hindsight was actually rather important. Most people tend to think of DNA as this sort of powerful tool for the prosecution. Uh-uh, it cuts both ways, you know, you can use it for the defense as well. If you're innocent it will, or... words like innocent and guilt are words that belong to the courtroom, not to science. Here was a technology you can establish with a remarkable, potentially with remarkable accuracy whether Sample A came from Person B or not, whether that means guilt or innocence is a quite separate thing.
